Every place on this site comes from one of these. Each is republished here under the licence its publisher set — not all of them are the same licence, and where a dataset carries none the places in it are held back rather than published.

The law
Legislation, regulations and council by-laws are quoted from the official registers named on each page, under the terms those registers publish them. Quotes are exact and kept short; the link on every claim goes to the official text so you can read it in full at the source rather than take this site's word for it.
This site's own work
The writing, the analysis and the way this material is assembled are published under CC BY 4.0. Reuse it, including commercially, and credit National Digital.
That licence is ours to give over this site's own work, and never over the government records underneath it or the legislation quoted from the registers. Those stay under the terms above.
The code that builds it
Every page here is generated from a set of scripts, published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. Run a modified version of it as a public service and you have to publish your changes.
That is a deliberate choice about this subject rather than a default. What makes this site worth reading is the discipline underneath it: every legal claim traced to an official source, unknown never rendered as permission, and rules published rather than sleeping spots. A copy that quietly dropped any of that would be dangerous to the people it is for, and this licence means it could not do so quietly.
